How We Kept 4 Cats Happy in an 800 Sq Ft Home
(Without Losing Our Sanity or Sofa)
What we learned from squeezing cat towers, puzzle games, and backyard adventures into a tiny home.
Let’s be real: tiny home life with FOUR cats sounds like a recipe for shredded furniture and total chaos, right? That’s what our hoomans thought, too—until they figured out how to turn 800 square feet into a feline-friendly purr-adise.
We’re the STRAYZ—4 rescue cats with big personalities and even bigger opinions. And this is the story of how our hoomans turned their teeny-tiny home into a full-blown cat enrichment sanctuary with towers, treats, leashes, and lots of love.
So if you’ve ever thought, “How am I supposed to keep my cats entertained in a small space?”—this post is for YOU.
Let’s break it down. 🐾
Tower Town: Vertical Space is PRIME Real Estate
If there’s one thing we learned in tiny home life, it’s this:
If you can’t spread out… climb up.
Our hoomans invested in sturdy, tall cat towers for every major room. But they didn’t just plop them down. They staged them like cat playgrounds—near windows, in corners, even beside the bed.
One tower was our “watch tower” for spying on birds and Amazon deliveries.
They even made us a “reading nook” cat corner with a cozy cube, cat tunnel, and soft light.
No space? No problem. Vertical setups = cat luxury.

Boredom? Not on Our Watch: The Toy Rotation System
Listen. We love toys.
But we get BORED. Fast.
So our hoomans started a Toy Rotation Bin. Every week, they'd swap out the toys in our baskets so they felt new again. One week it was wand toys and crinkle balls. The next? Catnip sardines, felt mice, and our beloved kicker pillow.
They even started a “Treasure Tuesday” tradition—where a NEW toy magically appeared on the floor like a mystery gift from the heavens (aka Amazon).
Pro tip: Don’t give cats all the toys at once. Tease ‘em out. Make it feel like a hunt. 😼

Outside World Access... The Smart Way
So here’s the deal: our backyard? Massive. Our fence? Nonexistent.
Oh—and there was a freight train behind it. 🚂
So how did our hoomans let us enjoy fresh air without losing us to the wilderness?
Controlled adventures:
We started with supervised deck time in cat harnesses.
Then came backyard strolls on cat leashes (still hilarious watching the hoomans run after Seymour).
And THEN came the cat stroller phase…
Yeah. That was a vibe. Except, uh... Mama leaped out of it once, so now it’s “stroller + leash + supervision or bust.”
Still—those sniffing sessions? Magical. And they made us tired and happy. Win-win.
Puzzle Treat Games: Snacks + Brain = YES
If you’re not using puzzle feeders yet... what are you even doing?
Our hoomans gave us treat games that made us WORK for our snacks. At first, we were like “EXCUSE ME??” But then we got into it.
We tried:
Flip boards with compartments and sliding covers
Rolling balls with treat holes
DIY toilet paper tube games (these were shockingly fun)
The mental stimulation + physical challenge kept us from getting into trouble (aka knocking over your houseplants out of spite).
Cozy Vibes & Cuddle Zones: The Real Glue Holding It All Together
Here’s the thing about cats: even with enrichment and walks and puzzles...
We still just want to be near you.
So our hoomans set up snuggle spots everywhere:
A window hammock in the living room
A heating pad corner with fleece blankets
Lap spots during “hooman laptop time”
Shared nap zones on the bed
We got affection, routine, and safe spaces to retreat. And when we felt overwhelmed in close quarters, we had solo hideaways, too.
This mix of stimulation + security = happy, healthy cats. No surprise pees. No turf wars. No chaos (okay, minimal chaos).
What We Learned From 800 Sq Ft of Cat Living
If you’re wondering whether you can handle multiple cats in a small space, let us say:
YES. You. Can.
But only if you enrich, engage, and design like a cat.
What worked for us:
✅ Vertical towers in each room
✅ Weekly toy rotation
✅ Controlled outdoor time (leashes, decks, strollers)
✅ Daily treat puzzles
✅ Snuggle zones + personal hideaways
✅ Cuddles. Routine. Respect.
Because at the end of the day, your cats don’t need 3,000 square feet. They need enrichment, structure, and love.
